Found this today doing my thrift store rounds - it appears real, but when I googled WILLIE'S WINE BAR, HENRI NOURON MEDITATION 2272482. FIRST EDITION 1984. ORIGINAL PAINTING
I found several; including one for sale on ebay for $1,995 - but all say that they are an original & not a copy; how do I tell if mine is a original or a copy?
    I appreciate any help!

To me that looks like a print/poster. First edition of a series of prints I would think. Doesn't it say "ORIGINAL PRINTING" - not "ORIGINAL PAINTING". ?

Agree. Doesn't look at all like a painting, more like a poster. Clearly a print, of which there was a whole run. This is first run/edition, but not the only one. If you could find out how many were made in the first edition, you would have some idea of how rare/common.

This is a print of the original poster. This is a throw on the wall and enjoy type poster. Home decor pretty much

One like yours sold recently on eBoo but a best offer was accepted. All I see is the original asking price of $395 but it's struck through.

It does say Print not Painting - don't know why I typed that.

When I was working in a design studio in CT, my boss was chosen to design a poster for Willie's, this is the one he did:

I was one of the worker bees who set up the art from a sketch Tom did, we did it as a computer file, not original art.

Tom was incredibly talented, he has 2 posters from the Stamford Opera and Orchestra that are in the Library of Congress.

then you might know if the prints still get a register number in France ? maybe 227 24 82 helps to find which edition this is ?

No, I don't know. We had to do the art, get the films made to the printer's specs and ship them off to France. I suspect the printer added any numbering at their end.

I'm not finding any 1935 examples of this online. Cassandre did a very similar design for the Nicolas wine shop in '35/'36. This might be a first printing, re-purposing, of a design that was originally rejected and never previously put into production. But that's just conjecture.
