Hello, I've retired and been retired a long time. My husband and I inherited 2 farms from our families and along with that came a lot of antiques. The farms have been in our families for over 150 years. I am in need of getting rid of a lot of the old things now as my husband and I have downsized and we need to get rid of a lot of the things we have treasured as our children do not care about them and they have no desire to get them when we die. So sad to me because we have treasured and kept these things and now no one in the family wants them.
Maybe someone here will appreciate and give them a good home.
    Thank you
    Deanna

Welcome Deanna. I am excited to see the things you and your family have treasured over the generations. New families will create traditions with them. I have been lucky to snag such pieces, and they give me great joy. I hope you will find peace with this idea.

Unfortunately , this is not a site for selling us your farm treasures.

So sad to me because we have treasured and kept these things......

No...no reason to be sad....these things...that you now have to get " rid of " ...have been a joy to you....and that's all you can really expect .

Thinking....that your kids wish to burden themselves with items that have enriched your lives......is akin to placing unreasonable expectations on family members who do not share your passions....

Time for a few MASSIVE yard sales !!

Hi Deanna, and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!!! A number of us here are finding ourselves in similar situations, so don't feel you are alone.....YOU'RE NOT!!! I've got 18 nieces & nephews, and MOST of them aren't very interested in vintage or lovely antiquities!! That being said, I know I'm adjusting to getting ready and sending a few things towards auctions.....if we don't, they will!! I also look at it this way....while we're here, we've had the enjoyment of the antiques.....and we're not permanent....so I figure, we're just 'borrowing' the things!! (As much as we love it!)

Mind you, Deanna, we're also kind of a bunch of "antique addicts", so go ahead and start posting great images of what you want to move along and need help with!!! Here's some help on doing that, in case you might need it....which not every one does!!

For Future reference, when posting images:

Each image MUST be UNDER 1 MB....
there are instructions on site here on how to reduce the size of your image, if that is the problem......you are allowed up to 8 images per post!!! Here are some links to the instructions:

Email them to YOURSELF as SIZE 'Medium' and they then should be under 1 MB.

Let me suggest that you contact any of the local historic house museums and the local historic museum before you give away anything or sell anything. You should be able to get a tax receipt if you give the items to one of these historic place that is a 501 3(c) Non-profit Organization and then use that when filing your taxes next year. As museum furnishings chairman for a local historic home, I know that we would relishing getting to go through items like those that you have to see whether or not there were items that we needed in the museum.

Welcome to our group. So many knowledgeable people, actually experts, in many fields of antiques and the conservation of these antiques.

Such a good idea above. Many communities value items of local heritage.
