He was a mime. I remember seeing him in San Francisco. Didn't realize it until I read that article.

I think you should dump the dome for your sale pics as already suggested and just heavily wrap it in bubble which will protect the feathers. It should ship without any issue bubbled in a box but obviously insure at value.

 

Wrap carefully in tissue first so the bubble wrap doesn't pull at the feathers.
