    IMG_2574.JPG IMG_2569.JPG Hello:

I was wondering if anyone could help with more information on an oil lamp that was my grandmother's. The only identification on it is Climax on the wick knob.
    Thank you for any help!

Hi, I am not much help but I think Climax may be the maker of the burner, not necessarily the lamp. Others who know a whole lot more than I do will be along to help you :)

Like I said, I am not nowhere near an expert on these lamps, but I think different companies made the parts and a different company assembled them. So the burner, base, other metal parts and glass were all gathered together and made into a lamp.

Wait for others to chime in :)

If you search Gone with the Wind oil lamp, you will see similar.

Thanks! Is that what the style is called or just a reference?

"Gone with the Wind" is the generic name for the style. Like others said, the finished product is a collection of parts from different places. Climax made burners, and the 232 you see is a casting number from the foundry that made the base. Without a name on the base, it is hard to pin down where it came from as many locations produced them. It is also very hard to determine the final maker, as there are many of these out there.
The burner (or wick holder as you call it) was patented in 1890. I'm guessing this lamp is from about 1900.

Thanks for the information, it is very much appreciated!!! I know nothing about oil lamps. If there are so many out there as you say is this worth anything? I do love it and there is a crack in the globe. I see some replacement ones but not sure if I should bother. The replacement globe is over $200. Is this lamp even that much?

    thanks again!!
