I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas about this little fella! He is about 3” tall. Tarnished, but not quite as much as the pic shows. He is silver in colour. He is very heavy for his size. There are no markings as far as I can tell.

    A kookaburra maybe?

    Is it old?

An ‘ornament’ or does he have another purpose?!

    :D

Kookaburras are related to kingfishers, so there are some similarities.
But I think that crest on his head looks more like a kookaburra's crest feathers.

Maybe you should have it tested for silver. They do make similar bird figurines in silver.

When I lived in Aussie the Kookaburra was quite common and a noisy ba****d.

Here in the UK the Kingfisher is rarely seen, it never advertises its presence.
It is a silent and deadly ba****d.

My middle son has a resident Kingfisher at the bottom of his garden, it sits on a branch overlooking a brook all day, until it gets its prize.

Although a commemorative my favorite coin is the silver Australian Kookaburra Dollar.
    superb design.

My photo, the best I ever took.

We used to have an extended kookaburra family in the garden of our first Aussie house. My mother used to treat them to small pieces of meat, which they would scoop neatly off her open hand.
They insisted on killing the meat by smashing the pieces against the terrace railing a couple of times. A lot of salami slices met a cruel end in our garden.:hilarious:
