Sambar have been introduced in Indonesia as well, but they have single antlers, more like horns.

This is an Indonesian muncak, not really in the running antler-wise either;):

This is a treasured Bawean deer, but they are protected and their antlers aren't big enough either.

Besides, even in the 'old days' no Dayak in his right mind would go to Bawean, even if he would be the only Dayak ever to venture out into the Java Sea. He would have run the risk of being executed for poaching, by the Javanese or Madurese.

The hilts on mandaus are bone. I think yours is bone as well.

    So they do.
But the hilt has one thick 'branch' and one thin one, so bone I think, like the ones I showed.

There is no reference of size for the top of the stick,so the lower fork of a good sized antler would work ... see photos. https://www.alpinehunting.com/sambar.html

The top is quite small 6,5 x 6 x 2 cm. So sizewise could be from small antler or a big bone. The diameter of the wooden stick 1,5 cm.

My vote is for antler, because of the branching structure. It would look very much like bone, but with a denser core.
