Loving her 60s look and lashes! What a gem. Every time you post, I get more and more jealous, lol.

Awesome mod on this Tammy doll. I like:

    ...

I picked up this 1963 Skipper doll, who, as far as I can tell, is a special test doll, due to her markings.

In order that Skipper wouldn't be so lonely, I bought her big sister ('76 Malibu Barbie) to hang out with.

    Aww they are lovely <3

I've got some Skooter's !!! and maybe Skipper here to reroot, but have just offered to reroot my friends' Trendy Girl Sindy as she found it too fiddly
There are a few proto Skippers out there, sommet to do with hair colour and texture from what I can remember

Thank you for your kind words xx ( she's a Tammy clone not a real Tammy, I'd restore Tammy but clones I think I can do what I will with!!) xx

    edit for hopeful clarity

I'll never own one either Bou.......but should she come my way, I'd find a spot!!:cat:

Besides.............being dressed in the style of a Laplander is a BIG draw for me.

AH is probably the only contemporary doll artist that I would consider. The quality of her work is in each and every one of them.

I must confess: if by some utterly amazing streak of fortune I did happen to come across one, I have no doubt I'd be able to find her a permanent spot too. I am SO weak.
In pics they don't appeal to me though I can see the artistry utterly and they ARE a cut above. I just know in my Bou bones I'd have to keep hold of her and just hope I didn't feel the need to replicate as god knows I cannot have one of anything.

But ... American Girls didn't appeal to me until I found one at a charity shop for a £,and now I love her ( I forgot them, they are modern dolls I like). I only have one though,my daughter has one too but she's not really into dollies atm.

Judy I HOPE the fates decide to throw one in your path <3 ( and mine too if they're feeling generous )

My lovely friend,Sarah now likes dollies and she claims it's MY fault.
I DO feel a little responsible so when she bought a lovely 1972 Trendy Girl Sindy ((schlurpppp!!! SO pretty I think) that needed new hair how could I refuse?!
The doll is ready, here she is
    [IMG]

I tried this dark shade against her complexion and think it's far too severe
    [IMG]

So we decided on this one.

Now I just have to actually do it.
Been a while since I rerooted, hope I can remember how to!

    Beautiful choice!

I am fascinated that you root the hair yourself. I can't even imagine the process. How many strands do you use for each hole? How do you secure it to stay?

The strands vary, dependent on a few things...hair texture, type of doll, type of hole, how many holes...rerooting's actually shockingly easy. Just fiddly. I use knots, personally as I will never ever use glue. ( Some rerooters use glue but I just hate the stuff and won't. I've never found the need for it. I don't use it for lashes, either)
My reroots are SO secure you can hang the dolly by the hair from anything and none will come out. It's more secure than the factory...I wash it,brush it, cut it, have dyed it...it ain't coming out !
I do it manually though some peeps use a tool. That has to be used with glue as the tension's just not enough and it will come out. Even WITH glue there is a lot of loss. It's a lot quicker though xx

OK..........you make it sound easy...............I'm sure it is not. Time consuming for sure. You must love your friend very much to do this for her.

Where do you knot it?.............Do you make a large enough knot at the end of the hair and then force it into the head hole? I can't image that working especially at the strength you achieve when done. Just how do you secure it????

Something just came to mind.............do you remove the head to expose the holes then tie the all together when done?????

It honestly is easy, like everything else when you've done it a few times. it's simplicity itself. The process itself is easy, but it is time consuming. I used to be really good and could have done a TG like the one above in a couple of hours but am out of practice.
It's very hard to explain, but I load a needle with a plug and *sew* it into the head, so there is a plug in the head then I tie a knot in the end of the plug really tightly, with pliers. Then pull it tightly on the top of the head so it's snug.

I'll take pics when I start Sarah's TG , may make it clearer. Am utterly useless at explaining. ( Sarah's a darling I DO love her! She wants to do it herself but couldn't. I'll do this one for her then try to show her how to do it herself, it's SO satisfying! xx)

No, I remove the head and fill each plug separately and with it's own knot. Don't think I have a pic to hand to show what I mean ... I load a needle with one plug, push it through from the outside so there is one solitary plug, knot the end of the plug SECURELY,pull it through tightly and that's basically it. Ad infinitum!Well until the head is full at least . Then when the head is done,I style it. I've seen some horrors were people have gone to all the trouble of rerooting and then just left it. It always requires some work to make it look it's best xx

I guess I would need to see some pictures of the process. If you should ever have the time to do provide, I'd love to see them, but I'm not holding you to it, believe me. Time is precious.............

Hope this helps, not sure how much it will but if not please let me know and I'll try to explain
First pic: loading the needle with hair ( this needle is a little thick, might try to find a better one)

Stick it in from the top
    [IMG]

Have to pull it through from inside
    [IMG]

I use jewellery pliers ( and to pull the knot tightly at the end)

Have to knot this end TIGHTLY
    [IMG]

Et volia! A plug. Have to pull it from the outside so the knot is snug against the inside of the head. (I trim the hair very closely to the knot)

    Hope I haven't missed anything out :O
