Featured Figurine,old or new?

Hi all. I picked up this little thing because it just looked old.Also,its much heavier that I would think so it intrigued me. Its 5 inches high,3 wide at the base,no markings. It also has a vent hole in the back. Any ideas on age or origins? Thanks in advance.

 

Corday? Her face and print fabric look Corday-ish. I She was probably a lamp. Sweet!

Lamp is an interesting idea. However if the hole is for a cord, it’s certainly in an odd spot, and where would a bulb go? It looks like the cord would be coming out her butt

 

Yeah, I'm not sure on the lamp, bc most Cordey (not Corday, but you can search either way) busts made for lamps sat on a fancy brass mount and the lamp post or neck curved up behind their back, not attached at all.

But she has a purposeful hole back there, so?

 

She is so cute.

 

Someone correct me if Im wrong,but I thought a vent hole meant an older piece because production wasnt as refined ?

Cordey China Company was founded by Boleslaw Cybis in 1942 in Trenton, New Jersey. The firm produced gift shop items. Before Cybis developed his own formula of porcelain, called "Papka," the wares were made of plaster. In 1969 it was acquired by the Lightron Corp. and operated as the Schiller Cordey Co., manufacturers of lamps. About 1950 Boleslaw Cybis began making Cybis porcelains, which are listed in the Cybis category.

 

All pottery has a vent hole to keep from exploding when heated in the kiln. It's not for a cord. This figurine looks nothing like a Cordey.

 

I'm no expert on Cordey, for sure.

I've never seen a Cordey young girl, most are glamorous, ethereal women. The pattern on her skirt and glaze remind me of Cordey.

 

I appreciate all the comments. I called it older just because I thought it MIGHT be. The weight of it mostly. this cutie is hefty. Hey,for $1 its still cute enough for me.

 

I kinda thought maybe Asian as well. Im going to put her in the cabinet with my 30 other figurines I "thought" were old .China and porcelain not being my strong suit .

My impression of Cordey is that the hair on their figurines usually receives extra attention.

It's a cute figurine, but fairly generic in its rendering. It could have been made by a lot of different companies in a lot of different countries.

I thought the treatment similar to figurines I have that were made in Italy, but there are a lot of differences.

 

Theres a black band around the bottom of mine as well.
