Hello everyone. I'm new here and new to antiques in general. I'm a bbq addict and have found a want/need for a meat slicer. I started restoring an electric 1940's Globe meat slicer a few years ago. I got it up and running but didn't realize how few places in the US do porcelain coating anymore for a full restore on it. The $40 slicer wasn't worth the cost of having it done. So it has just sat idle in a box tucked away.

A hand crank meat slicer came up on Craigslist about a month ago. It appeared to be close to 100% complete. Minus one of the sharpening wheel stones and the meat catch tray. The price seemed more than fair. So I jumped on it.

The slicer itself is the American Slicing Company. Model: American Eagle (W). They were based out of Chicago, Illinois. I believe the patent on this particular model ended in 1920. American Slicing Company ended up becoming Berkel here in the US. That's about the extent I know about this slicer.

I'm excited to start working on this slicer this winter. It's going to be a long restoration. I wish I could throw pockets full of cash at it but that's not reality for me. So I'll try to do as much as I can to keep costs down.

My biggest concern is the cost of replating all the nickel on the slicer. Has anyone ever prepped parts to be plated to save some cost? Any tips or suggestions for this?

Sorry for the couple bad pics. They are the only ones I have at the moment. (Previous owner pics) Trying not to get too distracted with the slicer as I have my house to paint this fall before it's too cold or snow hits.

    Thanks for looking!

Haha. That's funny you noticed the 118 years old. Feels like it some days. I wish I had kids old enough to paint the house. Can you teach a 1 year old to climb scaffolding? Asking for a friend....;)

    I appreciate the shout out.
