Is this cut velvet? How old?

    I got this in the same barn as the old clothes, textiles, negatives, etc.
    Anyway, is this what is called cut velvet? The piece is about 4 feet by 18 inches, and is backed with a different fabric. Is it worth listing? TIA

    I would put it up for auction. It would be helpful when you list it to open it up and see if there are salvage edges on each side. Probably not but you would want to disclose that in the auction. If you open it also show a photo of the back of fabric. I think someone will buy it.

    If you list it as cut velvet, people will know what you mean, don't worry :) I'm guessing 1920s; dimensions and design say "table runner" to me.

    I had no idea how velvet is made – so I looked it up on Wikipedia.

    I’m guessing this is devoré (or burnout) velvet (for anyone who wants to be technical).
