Hello, today I propose this candy holder

to which I would like to attribute a correct dating.

It is silver plated and not solid, since I do not find any punching.
On the bottom there is the writing ONEIDA SILVERSMITHS

I looked for something on the internet, but I find divergent news,
even end of the 19th century dating. I discovered that it's American, and I found their hallmarks but no one like mine.
So I'm not able to date it.

It should be an old item, I cleaned it, it was very dirty, and it will certainly require further deeper cleaning.

But in the meantime I'll show you, hoping you can help me date this item.

    Height: 8.3 cm
    Diameter: 15.7 cm

    Thank you all

I have been unable to find (having checked a number of both hardcopy and online sources) a specific year in which Oneida started using the Oneida Silversmiths marking. But it was definitely post WWII and likely even later. In 1935, they changed their name to Oneida Ltd from Oneida Community. In 1946 when they started making sterling flatware, they used both Oneida Sterling and Heirloom Sterling as marks on that flatware. In 1965 they introduced their "cube" trademark (called a "tessera"), but it does appear that it was not used on all of the things they produced. One reference implied that the addition of "Silversmiths" appeared by 1980 but does not give a specific date.

Given all of that, and both the style of the compote and the way the Oneida Silversmiths mark appears to have been "in the mold" rather than applied after the piece was made, I would feel comfortable with circa 1980 (plus or minus a few years.)
