When I first found this postcard in my Aunt's collection, I found some information about the performer, but I lost my notes and can't find him again on google.

    I googled and didn't get a thing. You're good.

I was under the impression he wasn't Native American, but maybe he was.

Unfortunately, there were several Chief White Eagles and one of them was named Joe Davis, but I've seen photos. He toured with the Wild West show and he looks nothing like the guy in my photo. I wish I could find the website that I saw years ago that actually had info on my guy. I don't think he's really NA whereas the others are.

Fabulous. That's him. What made you collect all this information on him?

My aunt used to send away for a lot of silent film star photos and autographs back in the early part of the 20th century. This was in her collection. My son has had it framed and it's hanging in his house.

He was best friends with my great grandmother and was my dad's godfather. He left his land and personal estate to my great grandmother who has since passed it down to my grandmother then my father and now myself. Not much was remaining from his personal estate because the neighbor who took him to the hospital stole most of it such as his collections from the wild west show, army uniforms, original peace treaties he helped negotiate in Washington for the various tribes, guns, bow and arrows, the presidential peace medal he was issued, tomahawk and peace pipes, and of course his native wardrobe including both of his headdresses (the larger one which was given to him by sitting bull!)

I happened to find some hidden boxes filled with letters, photographs, riding and riping awards, and lots of jewlry. Since then I've been on a quest to bring his amazing life nearly lost back to the history books and will be working with the legal council of the Pawnee tribe to recover the stolen possessions so that a complete showcase may be donated to a museum or on a rotation with several begi, ming w the Pueblo Arts Center. Additionally I'm dedicati,g his homestead land towards a memorial to be placed as a Point of interest with the restoration of his Adobe home as well as the education of his remains to be burried on this sacred ground with a prestigious head stone a,d his current burial site is very sad to see as it's quite literally the worst headstone you could imagine made of tin half the size of a license plate barely visible.

It's a project with lots of moving parts that need to come together but my uncle and I are also writing a book about his life.

When we are done he will never be forgotten. :)

Matt Moore, you are to be commended for your continuing interest in seeing that he is remembered (immortalized) in a manner befitting the life he lived seeking to help others.

Thank you for the kind words. Ever since I found that box everyone in the famy didn't know existed just after my grandmother passed...Indian Joe has almost haunting me (in a good way) leaving me on a mission to see everything come to fruition. I'm anxious to begin building out a website for him or rather the foundation created to do just what you mentioned. I b know in my heart there will be several people that come out of the woodwork with memorabilia to donate or simply more stories to add to the preservation of his memory... I will be launching a PR campaign so to speak beginning with a newspaper series about his life, how legacy and the efforts being made so that he is remembered as a leader, showman, patriot and in his own words "a friend of man"

The newspaper will include links to more info, where to donate, and the request for any information relevant to the cause. I truly believe we can uncover the priceless items which were stolen when he passed that don't belong in someone's private collection or stuck in an attic box somewhere. He treasuread the things he kept for a good reason and I k I'm ow he always wanted them to be available to everyone to enjoy and learn from. Some of his tribal collections he was possessed were far more than material possessions but rather carried a deeper and spiritual meaning passed down for generations from his ancestors.

I've attached a poem he may have written that is quite a sad story we are all aware of yet most of us seem to forget. I think you will all find it quite powerful...

Im,so glad I discovered this forum and i do believe this quest I'm on with Joe at my side guiding me for a reason

I've got 2 hours of driving ahead of me so I may not be able to check out all of the responses to this thread/topic until later but I will certainly stay active and share what I've learned thus far.

    Thanks again

I'm really glad I asked about the postcard to get this conversation started. Please keep us up to date on your progress. Since I inherited this along with others like it from my favorite aunt, I would be reluctant to give it up, especially since my son and 9 year old grandson want it. I could, however, have a reproduction made to send you. Do you have a website or Facebook page for it, yet?

Maybe. Not sure if you realize there are hundreds of thousands of Moore's in the U.S., however I do have a cousin with one of those names who isn't a Moore but email me off-site if you want to give me more info to answer your Q as it seems irrelevant to the topic. matt.moore@about.me
