lol he does!!! Wow thank you all so much for the help with the clothing! It does look like there is stuff in the background, what it is I'm not sure. I'll try to get a better pic. :)

So glad to see that Spring and ladybranch weighed in! My search for uniform information obviously left something to be desired. None of those sites came up for me. Much of what I had to wade through were sites selling "reenactor" uniforms and equipment - which I knew were not going to help.

And a great job done on bringing up the background!

I just wanted to share some other photos with all of you! No need to research them haha :) But I'd love to hear some opinions.

Fun photographs! The last one interested me for wasn't sure if it was "Ma" for Massachusetts, "Me" or "Ma" for Maine, or "Mi" for Michigan. Did find other photos by N.S. Hawkes of Skowhegan, Maine and the following write-up of N.S. Hawkes photographer in an 1889 business directory of
Leading Business Men in several towns of Maine.

Leading business men of Lewiston, Augusta and vicinity, embracing, also, Auburn, Gardiner, Waterville, Oakland, Dexter, Fairfield, Skowhegan, ...........and Winthrop, with an historical sketch of each place, illustrated (1889)

    P. 186 of the actual directory

Aww Thank you so much for the link! Really appreciate it. I thought it was an adorable photograph! It's one I'll be holding onto and putting in my animal album. I was wondering what ethnicity you thought the man may have been? He seems to have an ethnic hat and beard.

    >...what ethnicity...<

Gee, I don't know. On first zooming in and editing the pic I thought he might be wearing a turban, but now believe it is a fur hat. Perhaps an eastern European type hat? He has a beard and I think is wearing glasses. Here is a cropped zoomed edited version of the pic. Perhaps someone has a guess as to his ethnicity.

Haha I was sorta confused as well. I was thinking turban or possibly some sort of Prussian type of hat. Wasn't sure. He seems fairly old.

More "Russian" and than Prussian, I would think. ;)

10801543_832500083467187_4982615814740631887_n.jpg I guess I don't see the Civil war garb like others? My friends do the reenactments and these are some of the uniforms. They even ride with original McClellan saddles. Th pic with all the guys was taken a few weeks ago when one of the Buffalo soldiers passed suddenly, he was a good friend of mine.:(
I guess OP's pic of the boots over thee knees looks like they would not bend when in a saddle? Maybe its just me?

Bev aka thelmasstuff Colored pencil artist extraordinaire ;)

The part of the boots that go over the knee look softer and not hard leather.

Maybe, but I could NEVER ride with a boot that high, it would be too cumbersome. ;)
