I cannot figure it out, nor can I read the signature. I thought the last name might be Ortiz. There is a foundry mark on it as well. Found at an estate sale where the couple seemed to have an interest in Latin American items. Thanks! IMG_2850.jpg IMG_2852.jpg IMG_2853.jpg IMG_2854.jpg IMG_2855.jpg

I think what is on the back is a replica of the signature of the person on the front & that the mark in the circular cartouche on the front is that of the medallist, not a foundry mark.

    Is that possibly Greek?

Or some other language I don't speak... :hilarious:

Could it be Gebhard von Blücher? (Field Marshal of Prussia; 1742-1819)

He looks more latin than German with all that wavy hair and the floppy tie.

It's not Greek, but your remark makes me wonder if it is something like Polish or Czech. The dotted penultimate letter in the last name seems pretty clearly to be 'i'; however final letter also appears to be dotted but does not appear to be either 'i' or 'j'. Could be 'z'. Is there a language that uses a dotted 'z'?

Well, you know what - it could be. But then what do we make of the signature on the back?

Does this look like an F, or maybe a T?

That brow and those small eyes are quite distinctive.

JR, if you're listening, your piece should also have this around the edge:
