Anyone know what this box might be used for? Bought it this weekend because I love the panels, but unsure as to the date, the country of origin or its real use, was advertised as a sewing box. Pictures are below, also thoughts on value for it, I paid a decent amount for it, but I can't seem to find similar items online and Pietra Dura seems to range from a couple hundred to tens of thousands for boxes and I'm unsure what makes one box worth $500 and another $25K

    It is gorgeous, Generic.
Looks like those pockets are there to hold bottles and other glass containers, so a toiletry box?

Toiletry box does make more sense than a sewing box!

Just depends on who wants it on the day. This kind of item doesn't have a fixed price, they are scarce but results are all over the place. I bid on a similar item (not as nice as this) a couple of months back and dropped out, I think it ran on to about £2800.

The panels look Derbyshire, mid 19th century so the box is probably English, and yep could be a sewing box, small work or vanity box etc.

That makes sense, yeah I couldn't seem to find any fixed prices (I'm usually a silver guy so in general prices there are pretty set-in-stone) altogether I paid $2400 for this one (USD) as an early birthday gift to myself which I'm happy with -- but after seeing some online I was just curious if it could be worth more or less

Sewing boxes usually have rigid compartments. I have an old toiletry case with those pockets, they hold silverplated topped glass bottles and containers. Your box is more upmarket, so probably silver lids.;)

Cripes, bargain! Well under half what I would have expected if it's in good order.

I agree, Derbyshire rather than the better known Italian. Derbyshire has those lovely soft-toned flowers. It was mostly made from local stone from the Peak Distrct.

    Thanks all!

Glad that I didn't overpay for it!

And that makes sense that it'd be Derbyshire after looking at examples online
