Totally new to this, selling a knife collection for a friend and came upon this. Any way to figure out what it is, and if it has any value?

    Well, 1st off , it's not a knife ! :hilarious::hilarious:
if it folds it's likely part of a camping set....or picnic set ...
early 1900's is an off the cuff guess....
minimal value...unless you need it to complete a set.....then added value..

The mark is for R Wallace and Sons.
An early mark, probably late 1800s early 1900s.

Yes, Wallace did use this font and initials. Never seen this one before, but as Komo pointed out, picnic or camping use would be likely, so I would expect that somewhere out there in the world there is a folding spoon with the same handle and possibly a folding knife.

    Yes.
Search eBay sold listings for this type of item.....and any web auctions that may have sold this in a set.
You have the maker and a reasonable time line as well as it's purpose ......
so , go get 'er done !!
    & Good Luck !! :);)

Now that I've had a chance to come back to this fork, what material does the handle consist of and can we see how the fork "folds?"

I went off your first statement that you knew nothing about the fork. It helps if you tell us what you know so we don't tell you the same thing.

Where did you say that the fork folds?

To me it is just a 3 tine fork with probably a wood or horn handle that would have been carried in a horse pack. Not necessarily a picnic basket.

Looks like part of a campaign set to me. Missing a spoon and knife.

    Cluttered, the title says folding.

Here is the pictures of the folding; guess that is why my friend had it with his other folding knives! IMG_7127.JPG IMG_7128.JPG

The handle is a non-metallic metal. It has a steel/stainless insert for the "spring"

First picture shows, I put a very small amount of mother polish, and it shinned up great!

any way for me to test if handle is silver as well?
