Featured Ivory ? Bracelet

That is a classic north Indian and Pakistani theme, also seen in the Persian cultural world. I have Antique Indian silver, and brass, bowls with lions chasing gazelles or deer.

 

I think this one was made in the 70s, so post-cites (1947). In most countries the ban wasn't implemented until much later, which is a problem when you come across these pieces. I never buy them.

I used to wear a thin Indian ivory choker with matching bangle in the early 70s, before I had even heard of cites. The silvertone metal on it was just that, cheap silvertone metal, but the ivory was real.

 

With Asian jewelry made for their own use, you never know. I found a high karat Chinese Buddha with a plastic stone in it once. The gold was paper thing, but it melted just fine - no artistic merit.

 

Gold has gone up and down in value for years. I have had quite a few pieces in gold with glass stones. When gold was low they used whatever they wanted!

 

About Ivory, i am doubtful but designs resembles the bangles from Rajasthan & Gujarat regions of India.
