Thank you all...... I will continue to make additional very minor repairs as time goes by, but I've been holding back posting until I just couldn't contain myself anymore.

Maybe its just the photos, but looks like all the patinas gone?

I'm not sure what patina on ivory or mop looks like? Ivory can turn yellow with age, it can even crack.
The way I see it, the ivory was dirty, now it is clean, and missing parts have been replaced.:)

There's patina and there's Uck. This one had its Uck removed.

When I first found this, it was very dirty. I used watered down dish soap and a microfiber to clean it. Soft toothbrush on the narce and side carvings. Looking at the new images some of them do appear washed out, but that was the lighting.

@mmarco102 Guess I just prefer the dirt then, shows its hundred year history, helps define all the carving imo. what did you replace the missing ivory piece with?

Just my opinion, all dirt does is hide history, not show it.:bag:

Ivory stands on its own, IMO

@shellacjack, I am lucky enough to live near this gentleman, who supplied the Ivory fragments for me. Works out of his garage with the door always open(Florida thing ;) )

is that not what patina is, the age and ware of the thing? the dirt really is the history, the people that have used it and the places its been.
I don't know if that is desirable with ivory, I agree the statuettes would look neglected and dirty they are display items. The box is somehow different, its made to be handled, for me anyway.
how do you feel about the use of ivory today, I know its old ivory but does that not still really perpetuate the trade?

@Any Jewelry does the yellowing of ivory cause it to crack?

No, yellowing and cracking are too different processes.
