This was my finds from this last weekend of yard sailing, all found in one moving sale and spent a total of 25 bucks. All are silver (well over 150 grams) except the stuff in the baggies (junk) and the Givenchy necklace (its up on ebay and already has a bid!). The Deaths head ring more than likely a repo but well worn. I didn't picture the tool box full of name brand sockets & wrench's and a bunch of garden stuff and an older large Stein by gertz. Anyone have an idea what the stone in the last ring is?

    Agree, unakite.

About jasper: It's a loosely defined term used for opaque varieties of microcrystalline quartz, particularly when irregularly colored. If the microcrystalline quartz is translucent, it is called chalcedony.

(My message is about the one in the 3rd & 4th photos, not the other one.)

Hah! The Repo Man. I knew him, Horatio. Seriously, repro of what? There are lots of them being offered, the high end (by which I mean expensive, not necessarily high quality) ones as memento mori rings, a suspiciously large number of them from one seller in Bulgaria.

Then there's the work of Amedeo Scognamiglio: https://amedeo.shop/#en

The other market is Hell's Angels wannabes.

The inscription & wear on yours show it was a treasured gift. The year seems late for the memento genre (unless already vintage then), early for biker. Is it large enough for a man? Presented well, should do nicely if not spectacularly.

When I said repo I was referring to the original rings given to SS members by Himmler during the second World War, these were known as The SS-Ehrenring ("SS Honor Ring"), unofficially called Totenkopfring ("Death's Head Ring"), was an award of Heinrich Himmler's Schutzstaffel (SS). It was not a state decoration, but rather a personal gift bestowed by Himmler. This one is dated 21 12 43 with the name Dobler and the engraved signature of Himmler. Wish it was real but that would be highly unlikely! :cigar::cigar::cigar:

When you said repo, I thought you meant it had been repossessed & [edit: I] was unaware of Himmler's connection to such things.

I don't know how you could authenticate it, but see no reason it couldn't be genuine. There must still be a number floating around. Not sure a repro would be engraved with a date & specific name other than Himmler's, then given this worn down look. Could have been cast from one that was, I suppose. If you made them by the hundreds, all with the same name & date, they would soon be exposed as forgery. Are they worth enough to go to the effort of engraving individually with different names & at least a few different dates. (I'm imagining that he would have awarded them in batches.)

What happened here with the photos suggests these can be hard to sell. You may still find some useful bits in the conversation:

BTW - let's see the "junk"; sometimes junk isn't.

can you read what it says before the date ?
generally speaking, they were either sent back to the Reichs-Heini or directly buried with the dead. till now I've only seen one directly from a proven former member that simply kept it after the war. another two on markets that were very doubtful.

So they were repo'd after all.

A number of these were brought back by returning GI's after having taken them from dead SS however a number have been reproduced due to the high value of the original. If the SS soldier was killed in battle and his body recovered than by Himmler's order the ring which was the property of the Reich was returned and placed with other recovered rings to honor the fallen.

yes. before the name there should be "slb" meaning "seinem lieben" (to his dear), which is similar to the s.l.B. on gifts exchanged in the students corps. there it means "seinem lieben Bruder" (to his beloved brother).

There is what looks like "slb" before the name. Left it off for sake of brevity :cigar:. I will add some more photos of it for those who are interested.

Nice photos... did the originals all have an applied/soldered skull or were they cast one piece rings?

I have seen numerous examples with both applied and cast skulls and from the "real" ones (supposed) I've seen believe that the original ones were all cast. That's not to say I couldn't be wrong! :cigar::cigar::cigar:

I would post that ring on the wehrmacht awards forum. They will identify it as real or repro in a heartbeat. Most German TR related items have been reproduced. Even common items.
