With my clumsiness a cleaver becomes a deadly weapon. I already had to have stitches after cutting a potato (and my finger:nurse:). I don't even like potatoes.:hilarious:

I use paring knives for potatoes. I do have a scar from a loaf of pumpernickel bread. I still like pumpernickel, but buy the bagels instead.(LOL)

Those need slicing, but you start towards you, and flip the bagel halfway through and cut away the rest of the time. (those who don't use a cutting board)

That gave me a good chuckle, I often seem to cut/damage myself largely by being careless. My wife has a blood phobia so is very unimpressed. One time while washing up I 'punched' a carving knife which went right into my knuckle (could see the white cartilage and was quite interesting). I couldn't glue or plaster it up as when I let go of the wound it started spurting, called Mrs CE, she nearly fainted and couldn't help, she had to drive me to my dad's house so he could help me sort it lol.

One of those times having a second female handy can be useful; almost all adult women can handle the sight of blood.(LOL)

:hilarious: It is interesting what we have inside our bodies, isn't it. Only clumsy people get to see things like that.:smug::smuggrin:

Just wait till you stub your toe on the bed leg and split the skin between your toes. You get to see all the little tendons holding your toes together.

Aha!! The heads look like they are carved the same way and mine may have had coconut hair at some stage. Still can't figure out why they hollowed out the drum unless it held something. Looks like it's sock sushi for me.:yuck:

I recently came across an article which described similar figures as available as souvenirs in a museum of Asmat art in Jakarta.

And a shutterstock photo which also attributes them to the Asmat, but clearly not traditional Asmat in style.

I assume they are made somewhere in Indonesia, and perhaps have just become generic "tribal" souvenirs which can be branded with various locations.

Just like many vintage souvenir items from US tourist destinations that are "Made In Japan".

That's been going on ever since there have been tourist souvenirs.

I seem to recall Napoleon Bonaparte in Egypt complained about those "bloody Egyptian" fakes also. The Romans complained about the fake Greek statues as well. Been going on for a few thousand years or so.

'Taman Mini Indonesia Indah' is not exactly a museum in the usual sense.
It is a park that exhibits various cultures of Indonesia, but more for entertainment than for research or authenticity. It is a bit like an Indonesian Disneyland.
It is a pity that they make such a travesty of traditional cultures, but for some people it can be a start to explore those cultures.
Very likely. They could even be made in China for all I know, but certainly not tribal anything.

Stephen, good to see you again.
And please feel free to burn that 'carving'.:playful:
