I'm new to the forum and I was hoping someone may be able to assist me with more information about this lighter.

As you can see from the pictures it's an Imco Triplex. Nothing unusual there, millions of these have been made and they can be obtained very cheap from many sources.

However, this one unusually has no model number on the base. The little amount of information I can gather is that this means it was one of the first models made, in addition the mechanism is (I believe) known as the type 1 mechanism and was later refined to operate rather differently.

It's a scruffy looking piece but it does work, I put a new flint and some fuel into it and it sparked up immediately!

It's a curiosity as much as anything, I'm happy to have it as a talking point though if it is an original from the 1920s I'll probably stop using it and maybe even get it restored.

If any of the resident experts can provide me with any information on this flea-market find (5 euros in spain a few years ago) I would very much appreciate it.

    Many Thanks.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I see through a forum search that we've had several threads mentioning Imco lighters through the years. So I'm surprised that nobody else has replied yet, but maybe we just need the right person to come along. Or maybe because this is a specialized question about a particular model it will take even longer.

Anyway, welcome to Antiquers, @Adrian J Turner !
