the news report was of course fake news made for the US market. the US army entered Switzerland by force with tanks and other equipment because their idea and expertise told them that they can save the passengers by driving up the mountains ; then they started their plan, the uninformed Swiss standing around and serving coffee for over a day and the Americans trying to drive up the snowed paths with armoured vehicles ! time went on and the Swiss realized that the US army had no idea about the situation and no knowledge about the conditions on the glacier; so they decided to do it themselves and sent up their team starting in the night without informing the US army. when the weather conditions were fair enough they sent the two Fieseler Storch up to the glacier - an airplane with which the Germans had rescued the wounded out of Stalingrad.
