I have recently started a collection of Candlewick for my own personal use and have seen a few collections that include the Anchor hocking boopie pattern mixed.
Is this a norm for collectors to mix two like patterns in their collection?
    or just personal preference?

    I would say personal preference.

Most of the people I sell to (B&M) are only looking for candlewick. The few times I suggested blending either boopies or copies, I was emphatically told only candlewick.

There is also the possibility that in the collections you saw, a relative, thinking they were buying candlewick for a gift, may have in advertently given boopie.

I have a LARGE collection of both. I use it for everyday drinking glasses, especially the 7" tall boopie iced tea glass. I keep the Candlewick 3400 line stemware for casual company and all the serving pieces rarely get used. I'd be happy to share or trade for something else, Mikey.

Years ago I started to collect the milk glass candlewick gold, I ended up with maybe 5 different pieces so that was the end of that craze ;)

I think it is personal preference. The quality on the Candlewick is better so I think that is an issue for some. True collectors probably want to stick to the one pattern. Those buying for use, may not care as much.

I do see the quality difference. The boopie line doesn't seem to have that many pieces either compared to the over 450 Items in the candlewick line.
Sue i just started as you can see all i have ids the four pieces so far, the candle holders are boopie and i also have about 6 or 8 of the boopie glasses too. We can talk about trading when i get more pieces. if i find something i already have i would be happy to let you know though.
Thank you all for your input and advice I respect and admire all of you.

Really just a test. Personally they are too similar and still different so I would prefer something clear different.

    Candlewick collectors collect Candlewick.

You would prefer something clearly different?

Fostoria American. If ever there was a "masculine" pattern of elegant glass this is it.
I LOVE big hunky pieces of American. When cleaned up spotlessly and set in the angling sun it is simply striking. There is not a bolder pattern made in elegant, IMHO.

Yes American is one of the best. but it too is overrun with copys and fakes. since my father was an avid collectof of it I have learned to pick out the fakes though. at one time he had over 700 pieces.

The candlewick gold to me was too hard to find to add any number to my collection. I am a cheap skate so I didn't buy any on eBay ;). I found my pieces ar the T.:) I still love them the best.;)

I hadn't realized Candlewick was so collectible until I listed a small bowl a couple of years back. Then I wished I'd had more!

Mikey, I don't want anymore of it, I have enough. I meant I'd be happy to give you some of mine. I have so much of it, it is just taking up space.

I first discovered it many years ago at a friend's who has an annual spring tea party in her back yard. There is usually 40-50 people there, and she uses all Candlewick - she has that much of it.

I used to buy it (Candlewick) for a friend of mine that was trying to put together sets for her daughters. I kind of avoid it now because for me it is hard to sell. but I will still buy pieces of it if I see it cheap, or an uncommon piece. My last purchase was 4 salt cellars, I still have them. Was hoping to list them soon, but I may wait awhile to see if they might bring a better price closer to Christmas.

Oh.... by the way, I would have no problem mixing the two. The red or green Boopie would just help set off a nice Christmas Table Setting. Only real collectors are even going to realize there is a difference anyway.

Sue, i wouldn't be able to just take some. i would have to pay one way or another, or trade. I am mostly right now looking for main pieces, you know butter dish, cream, sugar. Seems plates are real hard to find also. i would like to eventually have a full set for serving 8 or 12. like my dad did with his fostoria American. at Christmas with 10 people at the table, everything was American, plates, Glasses, and all the serving dishes. I thought it was just beautiful.

At one point I had a bunch of Candlewick in inventory but it seemed like the bottom just dropped out of the market. I know I have several cups and saucer sets somewhere still. I listed them several times at what I thought was a very reasonable price but got no takers. I did get lowball offers :sour: I finally just packed them all away....... along with the Candlewick stems that no one seems to want. Never even tried to list those.
