Thanks for the referral, INH, but we think fid and ownedby' nailed what it is. It woulda stumped us, since such things are completely alien here in the States -- so, sorry, we've got no idea what the generic name for such devices would be. Delighted to have learned something, though! (Dang, doesn't anyone have boardgame questions?)

I don`t see how this would work for football pools.

There used to be 92 clubs playing 46 games each Saturday and you purchased 10 or 12 goes and you had to guess which of those games would be a Score Draw.

You placed your X next to the game you thought might be a Score Draw.

1point = Home Win or Away Win, 2 points = No score Draw, 3 points = Score Draw.

If you got 8 score draws that was 24 points the maximum possible, if there was only 8 score draws that weekend and you were the only person to predict all 8 you won the jackpot.

I don`t see how you could put this device against a list of 46 games.

    BTW
I got 8 score draws and 24 points once, but so did everyone else.
I won £84 back in the 80`s rather than £250,000

It might be a form of calculus similar to Napiers Bones but with the X = 10.

Oh yes, when was it we silly yanks coined that term, "soccer"? I've completely forgotten the history behind that. :hilarious:

Jivvy, the word "soccer" is derived from ""Association football."

It's entirely possible I was giving @daveydempsey a bit of hard time on that one. ;)
