Yea, I've seen the fountains, and they don't do anything for me either. I've seen them "peeing" into back yard pools - YUCK!!!!!

 

I just had to follow the above link......to see if there was an explanation of "Why?"
There are indeed several legends.....and as early as 1695 the original "Menneke Pis" was considered a symbol of the people of Brussels, "an object of glory appreciated by all and renowned throughout the world". It also apparently embodies their sense of humor and their independence of mind.
For a special treat, it is said the "Menneke Pis" is sometimes hooked up to a keg of Belgian beer which is dispensed to passers-by.
He has a thousand different costumes to wear, dating back to the seventeenth century; on permanent display in the city museum. One does learn such interesting things here....

 

When I was six years old my parents bought a larger home with very old & elaborate gardens which included a few pieces of large statuary, one was a marble fountain of a boy peeing into a pond. I was so afraid of what my friends would think on their first visit, I begged my dad to cover it up to no avail. My sweet older sister pinned a towel around his waist so I wouldn’t be so embarrassed.

 

It is sort of amusing; not the statue itself so much as the fuss about it, and the interesting stories people have of similar fountains.

And note that today he is dressed in honor of Maurice Chevalier, born September 12 1888.

 

I suspect people who have had little boys think it's cute. I didn't and I don't, but that's just me

I'm not a fan either .. the corkscrew one sickens me, maybe it's because they are child figures .. Oh well, to each his own ... Joy.
