    Wow! Thank you! I'll do more research but I think that's it!

    We are new to the antique world. Does anyone have any thoughts on repairing the leather straps and the string which is now replaced with a rubber band? I was kind of thinking it would be cool to make it work again.

    Since no one has weighed in on the leather repair, I will repeat what I have read here in general. If you are intending to sell this, leave it in original condition, let the buyer do what they wish. If you are keeping it, make sure you bring it to a trusted repairer.
