I'm kind of tempted by these, which are apparently 50cm tall. There's quite a bit of damage -- that rim chip and the rings the people are holding. Any thoughts? They're cheap, mostly. Any guesses as to age and whether they're worth anything would be appreciated. These are the only pics available ... and I'm rapidly going off them. 40904770_10157783625378327_2742529892024320_n.jpg 40993296_10157783618383327_8804482691064922112_n.jpg 40877315_10157783618368327_656010654796218368_n.jpg

Chips I can handle. Restored broken rings I can still sell. Missing chunks of rings now that is a different kettle of fish. Unless it is identifiable as being rare or from earlier than about 1850 I would struggle to get more than $100 the pair on eboo so unless they cost under $30 the pair I wouldn't touch them. I still probably wouldn't but then again the quality of the detailing is quite exeptional.

Thanks, they are pretty huge too ... allegedly bought in Melbourne in the 60s by the wealthy step-grandfather. I was going off them and reckon they are just too big and probably pretty recent. You can sell on eBay? Wow ... I haven't managed an eBay sale in ages.

But they are pretty small compared with these guys, also damaged. They sold for
£2,500 + VAT and are 107 cm. Seller reckoned around 1910.

Wow. Those big ones are amazing. I hate to say it but yours look like the cheap knockoff version sold to the general public:rolleyes:

Apparently the two for sale in Sydney were used as lamp bases, and I'd guess they'd be around 1910. Also, there are such similarities with these giant ones that they could be from the same maker -- though they're nothing like as impressive and are very much more downmarket, of course. I don't need lamps or more stuff but think someone might score a bargain. She's asking $100 and might drop ...

Lamp bases would ruin it for me. Holes in the bottom etc unless they just stuffed the lamp in somehow.
