Hi all! I got this plate for dirt cheap so I got it. It is 14 inch across. Has a 4 staples on back. Would like to know if any one can read the mark. The paint on the back looks a little sloppy so I don't know if it's a fake or not. The front has like a animal in the center can't make what animal. And it seems like the front is like a little glassy?? I mean if it's nothing it's ok because I paid nothing for it. Maybe @asianfever might see. But any help would be great! TIA for all you do! Your tag for Asian Fever would not go through like that. Click on the pop-ups, that way you know it’s the correct format. :)

It looks Japanese to me, which is not really Asian Fever's area of expertise. Now if it were silver....;)
    Maybe @Mat knows.

I've never seen this before & didn't know it was even possible. How cool! I can see why a person could be partial to them. I have a fondness for cameos that have broken out their edges & owner has had a new mount or alterations to original made to accommodate the irregular shape. Usually a better quality carving & shows someone loved it. This has been given an almost industrial looking silver mount that protects the remaining shell, making it quite heavy. Cameos aren't only for the ladies.

I'm not positive, but I seem to remember (which can be dangerous), that staple repairs weren't done as much after WWI.
Again this is memory, which can be misleading.

Mark looks Chinese, but I dunno. I’ll see if I can find anything out and post back if I do.

It's a chinese late qing or early public period people's klin porcelain ware. I had several pieces with this mark before and I sold all of them.

    Hi,
I had a great uncle who came from Alsace who was a repair man. He always did staple repairs to ceramics. I had a lot of his repairs. he was a real craftsman. He was doing staple repairs until the 1950s when he died. My Grams favorite coffee cup had 19 staples in it. i had it until the other half accidentally put it into the microwave. The cup was smashed and the microwave imploded and it also was put in the trash.:oops::oops:

This is not an old staple. I had one Jiajing reign mark Ming vase with lqing dynasty
To me, the repair is no earlier than 1950s if it was repaired in China. It looks not old as I had one late qing staple repair (which is iron wire rather staple) jar. (The jar is Ming Dynasty Jia Jing Reign mark)

Thanks Asian fever yeah I don't really know when the repair was done. Biggest concern is who made the plate and when.
