Any Idea what the logo on this Waterford glass is? I have 2 of them, one from '84 and one from '85. Same logo different date only. Maybe from a horse race? Sorry for the lousy photo and really dusty glass, haven't cleaned them yet... IMG_7782 (713x1280) (2).jpg

    Hi,
I just a quick thought when I saw it. I was thinking Kentucky Derby. Just a wild guess, no expertise.

I figured it was a long shot. But it doesn't hurt to ask and get it out there.

Can't say for sure but 1984 was the year the Indianapolis Colts moved to Indiana from Baltimore. And they won the AFC east in 1987. Occasionally we find Waterford items in our area made as souvenirs for either the Colts or the Indy 500. I don't know much of the history of them - whether they were for sale to the general public or given as gifts to certain guests. They tend to turn up in higher end estates but don't bring a lot at auction.

Good point. I did a search of horseshoe logos but couldn't come up with this exact one. Puzzling!

I did a little more digging and the only thing I found out is that all the ones with horseshoe logos and dates seem to have been listed (most didn't sell) at auction by Akiba Antiques, which happens to be less than a mile from my home. Unfortunately, their listing did not provide any extra information as to what the logo is. I'm inclined to believe they are from one of the local horse tracks down here. Maybe Gulfstream or Calder or perhaps the defuct Hialeah Park which closed in 2001. At any rate, they'll get listed for cheap. Thanks for the help and replies everyone.
