This one has a detachable dangle:

This is described as a watch pin, which was my first thought about this piece. Can't find an active link for the etsy listing, so no photo of the back, but when a piece is designed to allow something to attach/detach, the hook is typically quite generous.

Guess my conclusions for now are that it is a lovely, well made Victorian brooch with clasp replaced in the 20th century that originally had 1 or more other pieces that went with it, Just now endorsed by @kyratango

Circa 1880s, missing the drop and likely rolled gold, though they were also made in gold plate and solid gold - usually sold in a set with earrings that matched the drop, and as said, the roll-over clasp would have been a replacement.

Long a major center of US jewellery manufacturing, to this day.

On close examination it looks like the loop itself may have been soldered end to end to close the loop originally and the solder joint has aged and seperated ever so slightly.

The loop itself is soldered to the back of the additional piece that bows in the front and has the 4 tiny white "pearls" on it.

Ah, now I see. I did not pick up on the rectangular section with the pearls being a separate piece attached to the circular body. Wonder if brooches that take their inspiration from the Royal Garter influenced the design.

A circa 1880 Philadelphia wholesaler's catalog showing a somewhat similar set:

There is no reason to think they are artificial "pearls" & not genuine pearls. Seed pearls were not so expensive they would not have been used, even if piece is not fine jewellery.
