Hi, i acquired this at a local thrift store today. it captured my eye and when i removed the price sticker on the bottom i saw this name/initials on the bottom and a date that could be 1881? also there is a diamond stamp on the bottom with some letters but very hard to make out as seen in the pictures. i was wondering if anyone knew the maker and if its really from 1881 or something that was reproduced. if anyone has any info that would be great thanks! basket1.jpg basket2.jpg basket3.jpg basket4.jpg basket5.jpg basket6.jpg

The initials and 1881 date indicate that the blank piece was probably painted by a hobbyist, a very popular hobby in the late 1800's and on into the 1900s. It doesn't really matter who made the blank in this case.

That diamond I.V.W. mark is the mark of American Pottery Company of Jersey City, New Jersey. It was used circa 1880. The information came from Lehner's Encyclopedia of US Marks...

I recognized it because I also have an IVW vase. Mine is decorated with hand painted daffodils but it is not artist signed. Lehner's information is pretty sparse so I don't know if only whiteware was produced or also decorated wares.

I wouldn't hazard a guess on price. I have not researched the market. I'll put a picture of my vase up tomorrow when I have some light.

Here is my vase. I ended up with too much light and the colors bleached a little.
