Hi All, I am ew to this website but want to get some feedback on my cutlery set. I want to sell it. I have done some research but could not get an accurate value. My next step is to go to an antique cutlery appraiser 20190724_072324.jpg 20190724_081118.jpg 20190724_072649.jpg but wanted to see if anyone would have an idea on the value.

If they were silver you could get an 'accurate' minimum current value by weighing them & seeing how much silver is selling for today. Value of these is in the eye of the beholder. You can do exactly what we do: figure out the most accurate descriptive words & then trawl the Internet for others like them that have been sold in recent years. It's what an appraiser would do too.

Just to clarify, the U.S. patent date is May 26, 1885, it's for the form of the finger-guard on the fork (Rodgers' original English patent was issued in 1881) - the set was produced between 1901 and 1910, since it says 'His Majesty' with an 'ER' (Edward Rex), if produced in the 1880s, would have been 'Her Majesty' with a 'VR' (Victoria Regina)...

Are we sure it's not Elizabeth Regina? Duh. Never mind. His Majesty.

Hi Cheryl, The set that I have is marked "V-R" Cutlers to Her Majesty....does this mean that these are from the 1880's? And I am new to the group and I believe I posted on the wrong spot...so sorry.
