Eastlake Dresser

Hello to the forum. This Eastlake chest has been in my family for at least 60 years and probably longer. My father had it re-finished in the 60's. I was just wondering if it is from the Victorian era, or produced later. Any help on dating it would be appreciated. And if anyone might know what kind of wood it is made of also. Thank you.

 

That is a Knapp joint on your drawer (I learned this from @James Conrad.

Yes, Knapp joint dates it to 1870-1900 and Eastlake style dresser.
Hmmmm, I think the 2 glove boxes and top rail have been added?
The base of the chest is walnut & the glove boxes appear to be oak plus the pulls are different as well. Something is not quite right there.

So those are the correct dates for the Knapp joint! Glad to know that. After you point it out I can see there are two different designs on the top and bottom parts.

 

C. 1880 and walnut. Top could be a marriage but doesn't scream so. It is walnut as well. The top two drawer pulls are replacements.

 

Handsome walnut men's dresser ca. 1885-90, so yes, Victorian. The upper portion has the appearance of a buyer's option, i.e. you could buy the drawer/backsplash option, the mirror option, etc. Still original.
