    First post and it's a dozy :p!
This painting has been in my family for decades, I inherited it from my grandmother and I have no idea who the painter is, when it's from etc. Google doesn't really help so I'm a bit stumped. Does anyone have any idea of the painter as well as when it may be from?

It does undoubtedly look to be in the same style, thank you very much! Can't seem to find any reference to it online though, maybe it's one of his less known pieces? Oh well, I shall dig more :D!

Actually, small update, asked my dad to turn the painting over and written on the frame (though very vague) was W.H.Mason. Googling it tells me it's william henry mason so I think he was the painter after all. It was also purchased in London in the early 1900s, according to the stamp :p! Fascinating day :D!

It looks like it might need a bit of a cleaning.

That's a polite understatement ><! It hasn't been touched up for as long as my dad can remember, so well over 60 years! It's a great conversation starter, I see it as the view through a periscope from a submarine, my dad sees someone standing on a shore looking out over the ocean.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Welcome, @TinyWiking --

I found two pages that give two different date ranges for birth and death of William Henry Mason (unless the shorter range includes the dates of works that he did?). In case you didn't find these here are the links. The first link includes a discussion of two British artists named W. H. Mason who lived during the same time period.
