Nice Old 10k Ring with Large Amethyst and Griffins

Bought this at an auction today for $3. Unmarked but tests as 10k as I hoped it would It has wonderfully crafted griffins on each side, an engraved ring around the circumference and an amethyst of about 15 carats. It is tiny at size 3. Does anyone know how old this might be and where it came from? I'm going to guess English and Victorian. I thought it had dragons on it at first but I think they would be Griffins to be technical. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated!

Sal, if it's really 10K, very unlikely to be British.

 

Probably 9 carat. It does look like a Victorian ring and many small items were unmarked. (or may have been resized)

Since it seems to be a child's size, market it to Harry Potter fans as a Griffindor house ring.

I'm officially drooling. It's unusual and with a much higher grade amethyst than you generally see now; stones that dark sell at a premium when they're natural. The Victorians didn't heat treat or dye stones. My guess would be American if it's unmarked 10k; the Brits generally marked the snot out of everything. Still do. Even that small someone will put it on a chain and wear it. Women came that tiny way back; it's a lady's ring, just for someone who had small hands even back then.
