Couldn't leave this one in the store - 6" diameter- copper - marked/numbered on the bottom. The curvaceousness and craftsmanship in this one are really pretty. I've been deceived by patina before but this looks somewhat old to me. Opinions on age? Just some guy with the initials RN? Thanks for taking a look!

JMHO. that mark is a later addition with an electric engraver and not original to the item.

Sorry... the mark is poorly done wriggle engraving with a hand push flat graver.

I agree, hand done wriggle engraving.
RN was obviously better at shaping the dish, which is very nice. It does have an Arts & Crafts look. I love the movement in the shape.

I have seen (and bought) several somewhat similar copper bowls. My totally unfounded theory is that they are the product of young men's shop classes or technical schools - practice in working metals. Maybe 1920s - 1940s. They are shaped by alternately hammering and annealing the metal. It looks like yours may have been hammered into or over a form. I think the Greek key design was made with a stamp rather than engraving - you can see that there is a unit of the design that is very uniform and repeated. This may have been done before the bowl was shaped, as it would be a little tricky to stamp the edge afterward. This is one of mine:
    copper bowl 1 (640x533).jpg copper bowl 2 (631x640).jpg copper bowl 3 (640x480).jpg
    About 5" across.
The (electric) engraving on the bottom is a little difficult to read - M--?-- Copper, hand made, Flemish finish - which I imagine was the student's notes as to what he did on this piece.
