Bel Geddes Bed?

    Hi! I'm new here.

I found this metal bed the other day and it has a Simmons Sticker that says "Style 142." I think it might be designed by Bel Geddes because it looks similar to some pictures I saw of one in a set, but from what I read, they continued production of metal furniture after his commission expired. I was hoping someone on here with more knowledge may know more than Google can tell me about it.

Also, any idea what it might be worth? I know the market makes a huge difference, but I was wondering what I might realistically sell it for in a booth in an antiques mall (I'm new there too). The shop is about 40 minutes from Chattanooga. I imagine some young professionals there might appreciate the vintage, industrial vibe. I have seen some beds online that have been stripped going for a lot of money, though I have no idea how much they actually get. I love this original color though and could not bring myself to change it.

It looks like a 50s/60s car in those colors. Depending on price I'm betting some guy would love it! Throw a gas station sign on the wall and there you go.

I doubt designed by Bel Geddes. I know I would have a hard time selling this at any price in my market 2 hours South of Chicago. We just don't have the buyers that appreciate this and full sized beds are a hard sell anyway. Hopefully, you do have the buyers but you will need to determine that for yourself. 40 minutes closer to Nashville or further away? Whether or not you can tap in to Nashville buyers may be the key to being able to sell this.

Thank you so much for your
Thank you so much for your reply and your assessment. I had the same thoughts about the full size being hard to sell. The reason I thought it could possibly be Bel Geddes is because of the two pictures below. In the first picture, the bed pictured on the left looks extremely like the one we found, except ours does not have casters and the legs may be rounded in the pic (hard to tell). The stripe and shape, however looks to be identical, and the color could be the same. This set is not identified, but it appears the rest of the set was being sold as Bel Geddes on another site (2nd picture).

Again, thank you for taking the time to look and giving me your thoughts.

Therein lies the problem. Often attributed to Bel Geddes, there is no proof. The known Bel Geddes work for Simmons was more streamlined, had more detail, was harder to make, and more expensive to produce. That which came after contained only the essence of what he designed.

This is a known Bel Geddes design bed for Simmons in the Brooklyn Museum produced 1929-32.
