Any idea what this is? Wooden covered pail?

    Found this little guy recently. Appears pretty old. Solid wood with a fitted lid. Measures 7 1/2" tall and 5" wide. I am thinking it for storing or possibly gathering berries?     Bailey, it looks like bamboo to me. It rings a bell, but I don't remember right now. @2manybooks probably knows.:)

    Does it have any smell or stains inside to indicate what might have gone in it?

    Just a guess, based on the material (bamboo) and the way the lid is attached - perhaps from the Philippines or thereabouts, used to store something like tea, salt, betel nut. Meant to sit on a surface rather than be carried about, and mundane - not deserving elaborate decoration.

    the way the rope is placed....and being a bamboo container. I'd look to Japan....maybe china....
