I need help with this large 16"x12" Staffordshire platter. There is an old sticker on it that says it is J & G Alcock c1840. I can't seem to find a mark that matches the one on the bottom of this platter. It is a little smeared. Did the sticker correctly identify this platter or is it possibly another company? Any help appreciated IMG_8785.jpg IMG_8786.jpg IMG_8787.jpg IMG_8788.jpg .

I think the sticker is wrong. I think this a piece of Coburg.
    Hope this helps

Thank you! That does look to be what it is. Does the browning affect the value? When do you think this dates from? Thanks!

A bottle of hydrogen peroxide will take the brown out. Put the plate on a table somewhere, or in a wash basin or something. Fill the center with hydrogen peroxide and let sit 24 hours. Pour out the brown nastiness the next day. Repeat if needed. Technically it's supposed to be the commercial grade stuff, but a bottle from the drugstore will get the job done eventually.

Do either of these help clarify anything any, not to throw a monkey wrench into the works :smuggrin:??

Yes, those are upside down, though. Coburg over J.E.

@janetpjohn, you've got better eyes than I do, but then I'm in the middle of needing new glasses too!!! Fixed!

I couldn't actually read it, just found the same platter with a better mark.
