    Hello Again,

I found this incredible Chinese embroidery; it looks to me that it is a real work of art! The interesting thing (at least for me) is that it is made on a very thin layer of yellow silk, which is attached (glued most likely) to a soft cardboard. At first inspection, I thought that parts of it were painted, but taking a closer look, it made me realize that all of the work was finely done in silk. You can really appreciate the shades of the branches and of the flowers finely done with very thin silk threads.

Any idea in estimating the age of this beauty? Also, as with most Chinese art, any idea on its meaning?

Thanks ahead for your valuable input!

I meant to comment on this size of this item; it is pretty large; total including the soft cardboard in centimeters is 162 x 90.5; the yellow silk is 133.5 x 73 centimeters.

I know nothing of the age or origin. I do know the bird is a Feng Huang a magic bird that has appeared in Chinese for over a 100 years. It is sort of a version of the Phoenix. There are different versions that occur through Asian art but not as prevalent.

Hunch would be that it's quite new and CNC generated.

    I do like it.

It is gorgeous. It could be Japanese.
In Chinese and Japanese art the peacock sometimes morphs into the mythical phoenix, the fenghuang Robert referred to.
But it is also a symbol in its own right, and stands for beauty, tranquility and dignity. A white peacock has the added meaning of spiritual purity, especially in Buddhism, which is practiced in both countries.
