I got this tapestry at a garage sale in rough shape. I was able to talk the price down to 15$. Once home, I soaked it and got it as clean as I could, I was afraid of ruining it.

I would like to know a little about it...what its worth if anything. Regardless, I love this tapestry.

Size matters and it's probably my eyes but I cannot make out anything but blurry brown shapes in the picture.

Many of these tapestries came from Belgium or France. It may be stamped on the back somewhere.

I've always guestimated the time period to around WWI.

I got one at an estate sale once. Yellowed and reeked of smoke as many of these do.

It's a sturdy fabric and I had nothing to lose, so I put mine in the washing machine with Borax. I had an intermittent cycle on my old machine that I really miss. Hung it to dry, used a cool iron on the back.

The framed ones seem to sell better than the unframed.
Somewhere around 100 - 165. Depending on condition.

    Hi,
Look at the back. if you see blocks of color you have a newer machine made item. If the back is like the front you have an older one.

I measured the tapestry and it measures 18"x52" and says Made in Belgium on the back.

That is great to know, I just learned how to tell the old from the new :)

Just FYI -- This is not Victorian themed. Victorian is 19th century... the picture on this seems to be going for an 18th century theme.

No. If the back is like the front you have a handwoven one. If you see blocks of color, you have a jacquard-woven one. Neither determines age, unless by "age" you mean "before the jacquard loom was introduced in the early 19th century".

What OP has is a 1920s-30, jacquard woven, mass produced cotton tapestry manufactured in Belgium, with typical light fading. The theme is a 20th century fanciful idea of a late 18th century scene. Large, framed ones with unusual designs can go for over $50, but OP paid near retail for this.

I was wondering who would notice it was woven on a jacquard loom.....
