In northern Arkansas...I need the auction bill to tell you the name of the town and that has taken up residence in some strange and great hiding place...

I have to go to bed...I uploaded the side pix of one drawer. Maybe these will help answer the question of *are they or are they not* (dovetailed) ??? Goodnight all and everyone sleep tight and don't let the fleas bite...or the bedbugs, if you're fortunate enough to have any...

No, i think the drawer construction is the real deal, you can see the scribe mark on dovetails & the bottom of drawer with that bevel going into groove on drawer runner is all typical 19th century construction.
So i would say the bottom at least is antique, the top, i dunno. What species is wood on secondary construction?

The photos that were added after I made my remark give a better understanding of the construction. I probably should have edited out that post.

Nah, it's fine, i am wrong about old furniture often, particularly when photos are involved!

Sides, your post prompted pics on drawer! and my earlier post i think said "indicates" , pic's have fooled EVERYONE who messes around with furniture. I don't know why but it's impossible to authenticate old furniture with pic's alone.

Try determining whether an intaglio is Roman or Georgian with only photos to go by. Not for the fainthearted.

Drawer construction is consistent with 19th century, but also later bench made furniture. Using two pieces of wood for the drawer back would be unusual for 19th century for such a small piece of wood. Could you include pic of inside of drawer plus underneath drawer. Also a pic from the back, and one taken from underneath? Goal is to see the unfinished surfaces. Also, is any of the carving broken off or glued on?

Very unusual, Cyndie. I would also call it a hall table, rather than a vanity. I think colonial Southeast Asia, pre 1900, and certainly horns.
He is not, he is just very insulting, and probably not as much of an expert as he would like people to think.

Well, thread consensus looks like SE Asia, if you could ID that secondary wood on drawer that could confirm it. It doesn't look american or european to me with it's pinkish color.
You could try this, wood database, pretty good pics of different species

Well, I know everyone missed me...Yet, there are some others who have a dry sense of humor, with kind of a nutty side to them here, so on 2nd thought, you probably didn't even realize I was gone. I ended up going to St. Louis for most of the day. I felt very secure leaving the hall table as we (you) have now decided it is, in your capable hands. Now, you want more pictures...give me a while and I'll get them for you. Thanks for monitoring the hall table... and a great job you did !!!
