Wasn't looking for this piece, just ran across it looking for something else, and sort of fell in love with it over the time it was up for auction - had quite a few watchers, the title and description weren't quite right, but adequate enough to get attention. Told myself it would go out of my range, but put in a snipe for the highest I'd go and then left it alone - apparently overestimated its value, came in way below what I expected, but that works for me, 'cause now it's mine!

A Danish Empire silver master salt, assayed in Copenhagen in 1812 (still working on the maker) - oval with a wide rolled lip, about 3-3/8" (8.5cm) wide X 2-1/2" (6.5cm) tall, weighing in at a sturdy 67 grams, legs attached with naively cut and engraved acanthus leaves, sweet little ball & claw feet, tiny threaded posts and square nuts fastening them to the base, which has a center ball finial. The spoon in the third pic is my bright-cut salt spoon made by Peter, Ann, & William Bateman, London, 1800...

Since I 'saved' money, also picked up these six pretty teaspoons, stamped only '13' for 13 loth (.812 fineness) - they're in beautiful condition, doesn't look like they've had much use in the last century and a half or so:

Gorgeous, Cheryl. Beautiful design and beautiful marks. The spoons are not to be sneezed at either.:playful:

I hope those feet (eagle claws?) don't start walking in the middle of the night. Mind you, they'd all want to go in different directions, so it will stay in place anyway.

I choose to believe they're dragon claws, the Viking blood in me, I suppose...

Well phrased! Some pieces just seem to have 'personality'...

As you know, I love dragons, so your preference is fine by me.
That smidgen of Viking blood in me (by way of Normandy) could be one of the culprits.;)

The Indonesians are dragon mad too, so they must have done their bit to 'aggravate' my love of dragons.:playful:

And then there is this charmer, the symbol of my ancestral town of Den Bosch:

Those spoons are very special. I’m not into spoons (that sounds all wrong....) but they are gorgeous. So unusual.
