    The knob on this lamp is stamped excelsior, but I cannot find any on ebay that remotely resemble this lamp. I'm thinking it will be out of my price range. redlamp.png

    Connie. I know nothing about this type of lamp, but my first impression is that the red glass shade does not look right....(doesn't seem like it belongs on this lamp) It isn't sitting right and the glass chimney looks like it comes out too far from the top of it. But I could be totally wrong here.

    Excelsior is the burner. May or may not be original to the lamp. However, in looking up excelsior burners, I found that it is for a center draft oil lamp. Which propably dates it to the mid to late 1800s.

    I think the chimney is the correct height. Whether the ruby shade is original to the lamp, I don't know. But I think it is as it imitates the shape of the oil font.

    As for the shade sitting askew to the lamp. That is not uncommon as the fitters for the shades get a little bent.

    @Brazos for better information.

    I did a little checking and could not find your exact lamp. However, since the excelsior burner was a product of the Manhattan Brass Co., it might be a good guess that the lamp is by the same. Burners on glass lamps are not often by the lamp makers. Many of the brass lamp companies made burners for their lamps.

    As stated by several others, I am 98.57% sure the shade is not original. I have seen similar on electric lamps.

    I believe that shade was on a lamp in "Buddy's House of Pleasure". Of course, I have no personal knowledge of that and got that second hand.

    Your lamp dates from around 1900, give or take a few years.
