The biggest find today I think was a wolf spider. Kinda cute, but a nasty customer. He was in a retail store, and probably a hitchhiker. I just hope it was a male or unmated female so there won't be any more.

Saturdays jumble sale, £4 for 19th century violin in wooden coffin case with handle on top. Needs a new bridge and strings as still got its old gut strings, Bausch bow. Likely German but no label. I’ve another Victorian German Strad copy bought for £20 years ago which I tried to learn to play, even had lessons but my Akita would just howl the house down. She’s passed away now but my neighbours weren’t keen either hearing scales and Twinkle twinkle little star. Again and again. 012D97F8-0914-4DA0-ADC0-C78A28CF56EA.jpeg

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Nice price for that... It's missing the bridge, but surely that could be replaced if you wanted to use it.

Kind of a cool UHL Toledo antique industrial chair from last weekend garage sale . Someone painted the metal years ago, but I think still has resale value with the original wood casters, etc.

@Lucille.b - I would have grabbed that chair in a heartbeat & when I saw the label it would have the cherry on top of the sundae. :D:D:D

I am always amazed at the amount of industry that occurred in my hometown that I never had a single clue about. Of course I moved away when I was in my mid-20's & was clueless about many, many things. ;):p:p

Here is a website you may have already seen, but it gives a little background on the Uhl Steel Co. & may help you date the chair.

I'd have jumped on the violin, the pouf (for one lousy Euro you couldn't go wrong) and the chair too.

Thanks for the link, Peggy. Based on the label and wooden casters, I think this one is probably 1920's-30's, give or take. I am glad I got it. I even think the paint isn't the end of the world because it kind of works with the piece, plus looks like it might have been applied several decades ago, not recent.

You might be shocked to learn that I almost didn't get the chair at $5.

I was one of the first to the sale and it was just me and this (mostly) book dealer. He started this stream-of-conscious complaining, a bit louder than a whisper, about the sale being "kind of a disappointment in person" (compared to photos and description on Craigslist). This complaining became a distraction to me because I was afraid the former owner's children would hear him. Good grief. But he had a point, hard to describe, although things were well sorted, there was a bunch of upholstered furniture that was heavily used, lots of 60s 70s but not collectible. Plus everything was super dark in the house. No lights on, and I think whatever table lamps they had maybe had been put in storage. Not sure. So sort of got in this mindset that nothing too good was there, hadn't slept well the night before and on top of that, I was pre-coffee. Walked by the chair (unpriced at the time) at least 5 times without getting it.

But then the book dealer spotted a very cool MCM table lamp, sort of cubist in design, jeez almost right in front of me in the middle of all the stuff that wasn't good, and I didn't see it first. Somehow that jolted me into action. Although I usually don't get much furniture as I don't have a B&M store, I thought, "well I'm hoping to get something" so took a 2nd look at the chair, and asked about it. The 65 yr old son said, "oh, mother had that in the mountains, she used to collect antiques". Took a new look, spotted the cool label in the back and asked for a price. $5. Decided to get it.

Well, once home and looking online, was glad I did!
