Help Identifying Bronze Bust

Discussion in 'Metalware' started by Scared of cats, Jul 30, 2018.

  1. Hi,
This used to belong to my grandparents and I have carted it around for years. It is a very heavy bronze bust. I can't quite make out the signature, but it looks similar to Georges Van Der Straeten's? If so, I would be curious of the value of it as they seem to vary widely.
    Thanks for any help!

it's one of the many Parisian Beauties of van der Straeten. some call her Aprile.
good size and what's also importanant is the stamped seal of the Société des bronzes de Paris. probably made around 1900, exposition universelle Paris.
prices are a bit on the snaketrail for him; certainly better in Belgium and France than elsewhere. might do better in a proper salesroom than listing on ebye. my personal estimate for the continent at the moment 600 - 800 €.

he was underestimated for a long time. but it seems since the internet market needs more "new" stuff - he's on the rise.
I personally like him much more than some others like the Moreau clan that produced "en masses" or Elsie Ward-Hering that had the only advantage of being one of the few female artists.
