Symbolism of This Brooch

    I feel like the symbolism of this brooch should have been recognizable to me or at the very least, been easy to research, but I'm not coming up with anything.

    Input is very much welcome. The pin stem looks like it may have been replaced and possibly the clasp as well.

    I wouldn't count on the elements being symbolically coherent: Athena/Minerva with flowers & a star with foliate decoration do not really all go together. Pseudo-art nouveau, but newer.

    I was going to say, unsigned JJ; it looks like something they would have done. It doesn't mean much besides someone in the 80s had this on her power suit.

    Thank you for the input! The hinge (and possibly the clasp) look later than what I was imaging based on the front of the pin, so I was confused.

    I've been away from selling jewelry for so long I can't remember the makers any more, but there was one who especially produced these pseudo-heraldic pins. Large and full of this type of ornamentation.
