lovely oriental smoking jacket - real silk ?

hey all

thought id share this smoking jacket i bought yesterday

found it in a ladies section, but hoping it might be a mans,

it feels so nice wearing it, certainly with the heat

do you think it could be real silk ? (has a sort of lustre in the light)

chinese ?

any thoughts appreciated

I love it, and yes, for a man. Many of these are not silk, but it is a nice style. My father had a long one, which may have been silk, I don't know.

hard to tell if it's 30's , 50's or 60's......but it looks like Chinese silk !

I've never seen one of these that was silk -- they're usually a satin-esque brocade -- but suppose possible. And, they're hard to date because men's wear doesn't change at the same pace as women's wear. The lapels do give a clue. I'd make an educated guess of 1960s. Here's one of a similar cut that can be dated to the 1960s by the label.

It might be late 50s too - by the time the Beatles arrived they were pretty well out of fashion. The synthetic brocade ones can date to the late 40s, but that shawl collar says it's later. I have two smoking jackets of my own; I've been known to wear them to church.

 

in a perfect world id wear it out, but in this one, i think people would think id lost the plot

glastonbury festival though, hmmm maybe

 

This is one of the times being female is an advantage; even women can't understand womens' fashion half the time.

 

Then make your own perfect world....& wear what you want to wear !
