Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The one person in the world who would pay that much happened to find them?

Not a clue, but they're pretty. Maybe somebody knew something we didn't, or just had to have Grandma's lamps?

Why not just bid 699 , on a 537 price with no other bidders, just languishing there??????

It may have been set up between seller and buyer prior to the sale. Final value fees on fixed price listings are higher. Or, I've had a few jewelry pieces go that way on brand new listings. The BIN looked reasonable to the buyer, or even cheap, and it keeps another bidder or five from jacking the price up. If the buyer wanted the lamps and they're not available in their location at any price, it can happen.

Well , it could be that........or sumpthin else....?

Brad.....raise your price ....if it's sitting at 40.....it's cheap and ugly.
If it's sitting at $ 300.....................................it's expensive and stylish !!!

    Couldn't hurt to try !

( or you could be like one of them flea market guys who stick the EBAY listing in your face saying LOOK HERE ....it sold for this on eBay !! )
    Heeheeheee !!!!!!!!

Have you checked the base of the pottery on the chance that it's marked?
It seems to me that it wouldn't last long around here for 40.
    Lava glaze?

If I had the pair I'd have no problem pricing them around 3-4 hundred/pair. Probably wind up movin' them around 2 'n a quarter 2 'n a half. 'Course a pair is worth more than the sum of the singles.

Put a name on 'em and who knows?

PAIRS...PAIRS of big bold MCM period lamps are HOT around here. Most go to the cities (Philly and NYC.)

I think it was the use of the words Danish and Fat Drip. Fat Lava pieces can sell for good money and Danish modern is in. Other single Fat Lava lamps have sold for over $200. Get it out the store and put it on ebay!

I'm wondering whether the seller had listed it as an auction starting at $537 that also included a Buy It Now at $699. Otherwise I can't figure out what is going on.

If it had been just a Buy It Now, it would not have a Starting Price, would it?

There are a couple of listings on the worthpoint site that show these with metal bases. That could be why yours have different color bases. They say Fantoni era or attributed to Fantoni, but you know people will say anything.

I'm sorry--not yours, but the ones in the old listing have different color bases. Did you take yours apart?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. Those things look to me as if they are in need of a good antibiotic cream and serious bandaging! BWDIK!

I will retrieve mine from the store and take it apart to have a look. It will be a day or two before I get in there but will let you all know if I find any markings. My thought was that the pottery is Italian but, if Danish makes it sell, it can be Danish ..... LOL!.

It is always my luck that when I have something that someone paid a lot of money for, I can't sell it for anything even close. This seller appears to be a lamp specialist but the lack of any kind of description makes me scratch my head as to why these were even listed this high. This is particularly true since they aren't really a matched pair. I guess if you don't ask, you don't get. I will probably try an ebay listing on this rather than keep it at the store. Who knows, a listing at $199.00 + free ship might look like a bargain to someone.

If you look at the bid history, that is exactly what happened.
I notice they have another Danish lamp listed, but just one - not a pair, and it's only $195 BIN.

They aren't? I see some very minor differences but thought that would be normal in a matched pair. -- For educational purposes, what is different?

The stain colors appear different - is that what you mean?

Right, the bases are different and they have different colored cords. May not have come together originally, been rewired, refinished, or whatever. Minor differences but these kinds of things matter at high price points.

My initial thought on the pottery was Italian too.

They would never work in my house but I DO lke 'em too.
