Hi everyone! I finally found some time in my schedule to get a post together. I love doing "let's play a game" so let's get going. Hopefully this will be fun for those that try, I consider this challenge a "pro level challenge"...If you choose to play, please be sure to do your best to follow the rules so we don't spoil it for others. Here is a refresher for those that have played before, and for those that are trying for the first time, here we go:

    1. Look at the photos for any valuable indicators/clues that these could be good/bad
    2. Use your intuition, or search engine skills, or any other piece of info you need to try to figure out if these are worth your time.
    3. Consider the following question: with only the info above and the photos below, do you have the gambling spirit to pay $200 for the group?

Here's the ways to respond once you have done the steps above so we don't spoil it for other guesses, please respond with one of the following options:

    1. I would buy, but I'm not sure why
    2. I would buy, and I think I know why
    3. I wouldn't buy

Good luck!!! After everyone that wants to play has a chance to answer, I'll provide some more details. I'm also planning to share a "pro level" tip specifically related to evaluating flatware. Here's the photos you have to work with:

Yes and I think I know why. Though parting with $200 at one pop would probably kill me dead ! Im ridiculously cheap . :)

I wouldn't buy because I am not experienced enough to find good clues from these photos, and $200 would be a lot for me to gamble with.

Thanks Mr Nate for the game, I love these!

I like to silver gamble. Have a $160 box on the way right now.

I’d pay that price, recognizing familiar sterling patterns

I think I would buy for a couple of reasons but I’m not sure if they are valid. Agree with @johnnycb09 though that I’m too tight to part with that much :hilarious:

Thank you for the great responses, I was particularly excited to see so many people who have found clues. Don't worry if you didn't figure it out. So, I'll ask the group, should we reveal the answer and discuss or give the game some more time?

Seeing that many "would buy, and they think they know why" of course makes me think it probably is worth spending $200.

However, without that info I would not buy because I don't know sterling patterns and I wouldn't gamble $200 on something that wasn't 100% a sure thing.

    Fun game!

Thank you all for playing the game and for not spoiling it for others. I really liked @say_it_slowly ’s confident response. @say_it_slowly would you be so kind to share your observations and reveal what makes this a definite buy at $200?

Well for thing, one of my favorite patterns was featured in the bunch. Sir Christopher is a nice heavy pattern.

That’s 100% correct and 100% the right pattern. Does anyone else want to share if they came to the same observation and how they figured it out?

just the look of it.....the right number of serving spoons, with what looks like one distinct pattern, with a 2nd for everyday use....and a good quality box....it has that family used feel to it.

Awesome responses from everyone, and even though I'm sharing my insights please continue to share how you figured it out for those who played. So....say_it_slowly hit the nail on the head for the pattern. I had a similar experience; I didn't remember the pattern name, but from searching a lot I seemed to recall it was a Wallace pattern. So, for those interested in a pro tip, here it goes. Sterlingflatwarefasions website is one of the best sites for trying to identify sterling silver patterns and here's why. The way the website is set up with only sterling patterns makes it ideal to use as a search tool. If you haven't used that website, please check it out here:

To illustrate how valuable this method is, I actually managed to find and purchase another sterling silver flatware set today by pattern matching. I'll get photos up tomorrow or the next day after I confirm the seller has shipped the set. Here's the photos as promised of todays game, everything in the photos are just the sterling items I got from the group. Total sterling weight is approximately 1875 grams (still working on polishing, you can see the teaspoons are done):
